# What won’t change

> What endures, whatever builds the thing.

Chapter 5 of Design After AI · Notes · v0.3 · Updated 6 Oct 2026

The tools change every year. The people on the other side of the work change very slowly.

## People still have bodies

Hands, eyes, attention, fatigue, the distance a thumb can reach. Every interface and every building still meets a body at some point, and the body has not been updated.

## Someone still decides what is worth making

_20 Sept 2026 · Observed_

Generation answers “how”. It does not answer “whether”. Deciding what deserves to exist, and taking responsibility for it, remains the centre of the job.

## Trust is still earned slowly

_27 Sept 2026 · Observed_
Link: https://designafterai.com/what-wont-change/v0.3#trust-is-slow

People trust a product the way they trust a person: through consistency over time. A system that can change its interface overnight still has to earn trust at the same old speed.

## Context is still local

_3 Oct 2026 · Prediction · near future · medium confidence_
Link: https://designafterai.com/what-wont-change/v0.3#context-is-local

A site, a culture, a regulation, a neighbourhood. Global models produce global answers, and the designer's knowledge of a particular place and particular people becomes more valuable, not less.

## Care is still visible

_6 Oct 2026 · Observed_
Link: https://designafterai.com/what-wont-change/v0.3#care-is-visible

People notice when something was made with attention, even when they can't say what they noticed. As the average gets better, the gap between average and cared-for becomes the thing people pay for.
